Automatic Update not working properly

I run Win XP SP2 and my Automatic Update is set to work every day at 3:00PM.
Once ago all updates which Microsoft sends out mainly the 2nd Tuesday of each
month used to download and install OK. But for the last 6 months or so I
have to manually go to the Microsoft update site and download and install the
updates manually.

However, 2 updates always download and insatall automatically, namely,
Windows Defender and Windows Malicious software RemovaTtool.

Would be thankful if someone can help me to get all of the monthyl updates
downloaded and installed automatically as it once used to be.
Thanks again,
Demosthenes

I also run win XP sp2 with automatic updates on and check every day, it was
working great till today it downloaded 10 updates for office 2007 and word
2007 and some security updates that what i can remember, after restarting the
machine the error started to popup, the error signature is :
szAppName : wuauclt.exe szAppVer : 5.8.0.2469 szModName : unknown
szModVer : 0.0.0.0 offset : 0140c648
Also I realized that updating manually from Microsoft update and windows
update is not working any more:
"The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are
trying to view. Take the following steps to try solving the problem:
Refresh the page.
In Internet Explorer, delete your Temporary Internet Files by going to the
Tools menu and clicking Internet Options.
Close and then re-open Internet Explorer. "

Please help

Thanks, but this is altogether different from the issue I have..
Sometime ago someone from Microsoft gave me some detailed assistance, but I
tried to get back to them with a query but got no further response.

Absent any errors in your windowsupdate.log, you may be seeing a delay
caused by excessive demand on the servers. Be patient: It can take up to 7
days for all Automatic Update users to get new updates when so many have
been released. If Automatic Updates hasn't given you the updates after 7
days, reply to this thread.

You can try downloading/installing the updates via Windows/Microsoft Update:
Understand that by doing so, you're pushing all the Automatic Updates users
further back in the queue (which may explain, at least in part, why
Automatic Updates hasn't brought them in for you yet).
