You are not. I tried for weeks to find the cure for this problem without
success, not willing to scrub this installation of Vista SP1 and start
again.
I'm now working in "Never check for updates" mode. Remembering to manually
check for updates once or twice a month isn't too much of a strain.
If this problem has occurred in XP, I bet I could have found a resolution in
minutes...
