Does anyone know why Automatic Updates would continue to check for updates,
download "Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1
(KB832894)", install it successfully, then do it all over again?

I had a similar issue with my wife's laptop and we had to turn off Automatic
Updates, do a manual update, then turn updates back on.

Any help is appreciated.

I have the same problem here at my office, but using Windows 2000. When I
manually downloaded, the installer refused to install saying it's applies
only to Windows XP.

I have the same problem. I turned off the automatic update. I checked the
files and it shows the same update about 5 times. I just want you to know
that you are not alone.

Likewise. The darn thing (Update icon) just keeps popping up!

It doesn't install on Windows 2000 (Professional). Microsoft is working on
the issue. Just wait for their solution.

Suggestion:
Look in C:\WINNT\system32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}
There is no KB832894.cat file, so it has not been installed.

Thanks for the info. I have been going nuts searching the KB and internet.

I can't understand why your post wasn't in the results. More to the point
why Microsoft makes it so difficult to find the information.

Problems happen in the real world. It would be unreasonable to expect
perfection. They could and should be doing ALOT more to save time and grief
for their customers.

The error is NOT reported through the web interface or any log I was able to
find.

I'm having the same issue, but if you look at the download from the update
website it says 0 files. It's not actually loading anything.

If I understand your comment and the information displayed in WU history and
changes on my system the update is being applied multiple times. svchost.exe
chews up cycles soon after I click OK on the Update Suceeded dialog window. I
haven't checked, but I think BITS is a shared process service.

The distribution file may only be downloaded once, but it could be used
repeated.
