Automatic Update Service Disabled

I have been running Win XP Pro with SP2 for more than a monthy without
problem. Suddenly the system hung up in the middle of a game and I had to
restart it. It came up with the Automatic Update Service dsabled and flagged
for deletion and after one more restart deletet from the list of Services. I
ran a script that somebody posted here when I had the same problem with
another machine reregistring a lot of DLLs. Automatic Updates now shows as
Automatic and I can start it but after a restart it gets disabled again. On
my other machine I had to do a complete re-install to fix this. Below is the
