Service Pack 2 for which product?
If it's supposed to be XP and this is your latest log (seems likely)
you wouldn't be able to do it until you get the necessary updates
to use WUv5 (at least) or WUv6.
You can't use WUv4 to update XP to XPsp2.
It's possible that that is all that this error code is telling you.
At one time I thought KB842773 was documented to be a pre-req
for installing XPsp2 over the web. However, it looks as if there could
be some superseding information or perhaps most people have either
already installed it directly either from CD or the equivalent download.
The problem, as I recall, is that you need to be sure that you have
BITS 2.0 capability. This is included in XPsp2 but apparently needed
if it is being installed over the web, e.g. via Automatic Updates.
In any case try checking on the version of BITS that you have.
You can use the file list in this article to do that
<title>An update is available for Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) 2.0 for Windows XP</title>
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/842309/en-us
or if you have the XP Support Tools installed
(or otherwise have a copy of bitsadmin.exe)
you might be able to determine it (from a cmd window)
with this command:
bitsadmin /util /version /verbose
