Hi,

When using Windows Updates, the temporary install files go to
%windir%\SoftwareDistribution\Download\

(%windir% is typically C:\Windows or C:\Winnt)

Files in the folder Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download\ will
be automatically deleted after 10 days, but you can safely
clean out the Download folder yourself after an update is
installed.

Downloads are not automatically deleted after 10 days. I have stuff sitting
there from 2006.

In a %windir%\SoftwareDistribution\Download\ subfolder? I doubt that,
at least, that's not a normal behaviour.

May be, but once again, that's not a normal behaviour.
Disabling necessary Windows/Microsoft services and/or running "Tuning/Cleaning"
tools and/or "Security Software" preventing the access to these files may be
the cause. OTH, the folders in question

are dated "some time" in the past and since no other folders with a actual
date are showing up, ...
