I did a new install of win2000, added on service pack 4, downloaded iexplorer
6. Then went to get the latest updates. All the screens forced me towards
automatic update, so I chose that. But it won't stop downloading! I assume it
hasn't finished downloading all the updates, but that isn't the point. I have
dial-up and it is taking for ever and the internet is too slow to use
otherwise. What I want to do is stop the "automatic" download and then choose
the updates at my leisure.
Occasionaly there will be an automatic update icon in the system tray that
will tell me that 17% have been downloaded, sometimes not. clicking on this
icon gets me no where. I can access the automatic updates options easily
enough and have tried different settings but this does not stop the massive
dump that is taking place endlessly.
(Strangely, my monitor status seems to indicate that I am sending out more
than recieving. typically, at this moment, after being on-line for 1 hour I
have "sent" 21 megs and received 7 megs.)
