Automatic Update taskbar icon presents new screen that gives no specifics on updates recommended

In one of my most recent Automatic Updates, I think Microsoft must
have changed the way automatic updates are presented for me to
install. (I select "Download updates for me, but let me choose when to
install them.)

Before when I was notified that there were new updates to install,
when I clicked on the icon, a screen came up that allowed me to see
specifically what the new updates were, with a number and name that I
could use to first search Google to see if there were problems with
the update.

Now when I click on the icon after being notified, I get a screen that
simply asks "How do you want to install updates?" with choices of
either Express or Custom. I have not yet gone through the process
because I do not know what comes next and I do not want to install
anything when I do not know what it is and can not do any research
beforehand. It could be that by selecting Custom, I am given options
of not installing after agreeing to the License Agreement, but I do
not know.

What comes next? How can I find out specifically what these updates
are before allowing an update install? (I am concerned about one of
these updates being Service Pack 2! I haven't had time yet to find out
if Service Pack 2 is gong to impact all of my applications that I rely
on, nor if it is really stable. It could very well be that both are
the case, but I want to be able to know what I am agreeing to
specifically before I install.)

Any help appreciated.

Hi, Gary;

Click the "Custom" option. That will then check to see which updates are
appropriate for your system and provide you with a list (in the left pane)
similar to what you saw in the older version of Windows Update. You can
then investigate each as you wish.

The "Express" method will list all the high priority updates and let you
install then with just one click. This is faster when all you want is just
the high priority updates, and some folks prefer that option.
