Since this is an operational 'bridge-type front-end' system, you MUST have
some sort of maintenance schedule, to provide doing system backups and
cleanups. Don't you? At that time, I would manually check Microsoft Update
for critical updates/patches.

What happens when you do take this down for maintenance, do you have a
rollover system so that operations continue?
