Automatic Updates corrupting on many machines

For the last month we have had Automatic Updates getting corrupted on
many workstations. When it happens, many critical services are not
being started. The fix is to set Automatic Updates to manual, restart
the server to get the other services back to normal, then fix the
corruption and the updates flow normally again.

FYI, we're in a WSUS environment.

Anyone else having this problem as frequently as us?

We had this problem< but not so often. We have understood that corruption of
updates appears when we download our WSUS-server just in time when clients
download updates from the server, or when the network is timeouting during
the process of downloading of updates from the WSUS-server. We simply look to
the WSUS log now prior to download the server

I don't even know if this pertinent to the issue, but -

The Automatic Updates service may stop responding
