I've somehow ended up with a perpetual yellow shield "Updates are ready
for your computer" icon in my tray.

I click the icon, and whether I choose Express or Custom, I end up with
the same window message that says it couldn't install the following updates:

Security Update for Windows XP (KB890859)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB914389)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB920683)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB908519)
Update for Windows XP (KB894391)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB935839)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB896428)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB913580)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB905749)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB908531)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB904706)
Update for Windows XP (KB930916)
Update for Windows XP (KB916595)
Critical Update for Windows XP (KB886185)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB935840)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB920213)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB900725)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB888302)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB926255)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB918118)
Update for Windows XP (KB922582)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB923191)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB901214)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB932168)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB919007)
Update for Windows XP (KB920872)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB873339)

Any suggestions?

On the WU Website, select your history of updates - now click on failed update (red mark)
and see if there is an error code.
If there is an error code, write it down and post back or in the alternative, do a search
for the error code.

You cannot install updates that you download from the Windows Update Web site on a Windows

I too am having this problem. I have tried to install them but I get the
same result. I also tried the custom route but the same result happened. I
am thinking this is a microsoft problem as it is strange we both are having
it with all the exact errors and reoccuring updates on my pc. I am going to
try and disable automatic updates to at least stop my pc from trying to
reinstall the updates. I hope someone comes up with a solution.

Hello John,

Please confirm your system clock and Time Zone also the Date set properly,
Having it set incorrectly can cause this type of behavior.

Suggest cleaning up the system (clearing out all the Temp/Tmp folders, and
included all offline content, clearing the browser TIF, Delete Cookies , do a
Disk CleanUp.

Dial-a- Fix

http://wiki.djlizard.net/Dial-a-fix

Run this program with all the functions activated
Scroll down about 2/3 of the way to Download Dial-a-fix

I hope this post is helpful.

Let us know how it works ºut.
