Automatic Updates Not Dowloading or Installing

My computer is not downloading automatic updates, even though it is set to
receive automatic updates and download automatically. I tried to download
manually, but when I click custom or express install, it says "Files Required
to Use Microsoft Update are No Longer Installed - Click to Fix" I click to
fix, and it says installing, and takes me back to the express/custom page,
and then I do it again, and get the same message. I have SP 2, and the last
downloaded updated was May of 2006

I cannot find any support info on this. If anyone can
help, it would be greatly appreciated

Some have reported that simply re-registering the MSXML3.DLL seems to fix the
problem.
1. Click Start.
2. Choose Run.
3. In the Run box, type: regsvr32 MSXML3.DLL
Press okay

If that hasn't helped you may need to re-registered some more files:

1. Click Start.
2. Choose Run.
3. In the Run box, type (pressing okay after each one) :-

net stop wuauserv

Repeat for the following:
regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wuweb.dll
regsvr32 MSXML3.dll
regsvr32 qmgr.dll
regsvr32 qmgrprxy.dll
regsvr32 jscript.dll

net start wuauserv

Try manually going to the WU site again after a reboot.

TaurArian - I have been having this issue on several computers in my network.
I followed your instructions 1-3 and they are now able to download and
install the updates. I cannot thank you enough. You have saved me from
having to reimage all of these computers and/or calliing MS for help
@$250.00/call. How can we get your solution added to the MS Windows Update
Knowledge base?
