Automatic Updates Service disabled

The Automatic Updates Service disabes automatically. When I set it to
'Automatic' or 'Manual' it goes back to disabled. When I go to the group
policy editor to set it manually it still does not work. I am just finishing
up cleaning up a virus and it played around with a lot of the settings in the
group policy.
