Automatic Updates: Stopping

When I try to update I got this message:
"the site cannot continue because one or more of these Windows services is
not running"
BUT I did this: Click Start, and then click Run>Type services.msc and then
click OK>
In the list of services, double-click on Automatic Updates and then click
Properties>
In the Startup type list, select Automatic and click Apply>Verify that the
Service status is started, if the Service Status is Stopped click on the
Start Button.
THESE DIDNOT WORK. the button Start doesn't enable and the service staus
never starts.
maybe I've lost this: C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe -k netsvcs what may
cause this big trouble.
HELP PLEASE. I'm from Brazil and my windows xp sp2 is in english.

Judging from similar posts here in the past month or so, the behavior may be
due to a Vundo-ZLOB-SDBot infection, all of which is protected by a rootkit.

I had the same problem.

provides a solution which worked for me.

I found that reference in a "Broadband Reports forum"

i have the same problem plz help i just formayed my computer and know it
doesnt work properly
