Automatic Updates are turned off

My automatic updates are turned off and I cant turn them on, I have tried
goin to control panel and thru run and they still wont turn on. I get an 1058
error. What do I do, how do I get them turned on.

Considerations:

System may be infected with malware "Vundo"
