automatic updates wont update

i double click on yellow shield icon for updates in system tray, express
install, and icon closes.

sounds great?

a few seconds later, the icon re-appears and asks to install THE EXACT SAME
updates again!!! also, if i try, shutting down with updates, my system
crashes and all kinds of programs give errors etc..
