Automatic Windows updates in Vista

Hi!
I have activated automatic updates on my vista machine at 9 am. The weird
thing is, that if there is an update it restarts my computer without any
warning, regardles how many programs are open and running!
Is there any parameter where this can be changed or is this a bug?
