Automatically check mail accounts - WLM bug?

Hi,

I have disabled the option for WLM to automatically check mail accounts
every xx minutes. However, if I leave WML open and come back after a few
hours WLM has downloaded mails from my POP3 account.

Any idea how I can stop this other than closing the program?

Thanks,

Matthias

In the POP3 mail account properties, remove the check from the
box marked "Include this account when receiving Mail or
synchronizing".

Having disabled automatic synchronization of your POP3 account,
you will need to perform a manual synchronization from time to
time. To do so, click on the arrow to the right of the Sync
option - and click on the name of the account.

Thanks for your answer. Is this really the only way? If I leave the box
checked what is the default interval WLM checks emails automatically?

It's a known bug.

Basically, you need to choose between automatic and manual
synchronization.

Tools / Options / General allows you to configure WLMail, so that
it checks for messages every xx minutes.

However, your original post indicated that even though you had
disabled that option, you discovered that after a few hours,
WLMail had downloaded mails from your POP3 account.

I don't know why that happened - and I am not aware of any
default timescale for automatic synchronization.

However, if you don't want automatic synchronization to occur,
then you will need to disable it for an individual account or
accounts. That seems to offer a reasonable alternative.

I have a related issue. I live with dial-up and WLM will check for mail and
disconnect me from the internet even though I have it configured to not check
automatically. I know that I can disable "Hang up after send/receive", but
that defeats the purpose of having it automatically hang up when I
periodically check email and don't want to stay online or may forget to
disconnect it manually.

Any fix or Reg hack? I'd like to keep using WLM, but this is annoying
enough to not use it.

What happens if you set Work Offline before starting WLMail?

BTW what is it doing if you have disabled everything?
Are you requesting to be logged in with a Live ID?

The only other possibility that I can think of is the automatic
check for updating your calendar but if it didn't have a Live ID
to use how could it do that or why would it try? If you never
use the calendar feature perhaps you could try changing the
location of its domain name to your computer's local loopback
address? E.g. in HOSTS add something like

127.0.0.1 calendar.live.com

(assuming that's where it's going. You could use TCPView
to check.)

Good luck

The OP doesn't need to be doing anything.
It's a known bug that Windows Live Mail will sporadically check POP
accounts for new mail even when configured not to do so.
I've seen it happening on my own machine.
