My HP Multimedia PC is two years old. It worked fine until the host of large
Vista updates were downloaded and installed. I have not installed any
software other than the updates.
I got my new UpToDate DVD today. When I tried to install it, autoplay
didn't bring autostart the software installation. In fact, when I looked at
the files on the DVD via "Computer", the auto file was grayed out. The PC
could read that the file was there but not run it. The setup file would not
run. I was unable to read the "Read Me" file. I was, however, able to copy
the DVD onto a blank DVD using NTI DVD Copy.
I searched the Internet and found instructions for checking the Registry. I
made a couple of changes according to those instructions. But the changes
didn't work. I tried to install the UpToDate software on my Vista notebook
PC. The same problem occurred there as well. I was able to run the software
on my new Win XP Acer Aspire One. How do you like them apples? Two advanced
PCs failed to do the job. The little squirt worked.
I also received my new copy of Finale 2010 update software. It is on DVD
and would not install on my desktop notebook computers. It would install on
the Acer Aspire One. What's wrong with this picture.
As it stands now, I am unable to install any new software on my desktop and
notebook computers. What do I do now? Call the Geek Squard of its
equivalent. I don't know why this happened. It has taken hours of my time
to try and fix. Now it is going to take $$ and be very, very inconvenient.
