Available status options and colors

Why has this been limited back to only 4 options?
I'd like to see the previous ones back, like "away to lunch", "phonecall",
....

This way people can see how long it might take for you to be back and it
says more on why you're currently unavailable.


Another thing is the change of colors, why is busy red, and away orange?
That makes no sense and it should be the way around.

It's just the same logic as with traffic light colors;
- red is stop = away because you won't answer.
- orange is proceed with caution= busy because you may try to talk to me,
but it isn't certain I'll answer to it.

Simplifying status is the latest industry fad (for example, Skype did this with Skype 4 as
well).

I agree with the colouring though, if I'm away, I'm not too bothered if someone wants to talk
to me. If I'm busy, I want to be left alone.

I agree about the status options. It's too limited.

Some fads should simply not be followed.

Well the original idea with the introduction of the Personal Status Messages, was that you
could just put there your exact reasoning and forgo the silly statuses (like Out to Lunch).

Of course the UI never pushed that, and now it's a "quick message", but never mind.

I couldn't disagree more. If I'm away, I'm not at the computer to be able to
respond to your IM. If I'm busy, then I prefer to be left alone, so it
better be really important.

As for "silly statuses (like Out to Lunch)."; this is an assumption that the
majority of users would find any particular status silly. I happen to use
that one frequently, in addition to "Be Right Back".

If MS is going to strip an "upgrade" of valuable features, the least they
could do is give users the ability to put in their own - even if it's some
type of auto-reply like you have in Trilliun.
