I tried to download AVG's FREE version twice. But
I kept getting this error message:

CRC failed in files.dat
Unexpected end of archive

I uninstalled AVG and reinstalled, but I got this same
error message. I'm using Vista Home on a Gateway laptop
with 1 GB of RAM. I thought AVG was supposed to work
with every computer.

Your post is a bit confusing. Is it the download of AVG that failed? Or is
it the installation (since you uninstalled/reinstalled)?

Anyway, a CRC error normally indicates that a file became corrupted in some
fashion, probably during download. If you download much from internet,
you'll encounter that from time to time; sometimes it's a problem with the
server you're getting the software from.

Try downloading from a different source. If you downloaded directly from
Grisoft, try Download.com. I have AVG running successfully on 2 Vista
machines. Post back if not successful.
