Are other AVG users finding changes when using it on VISTA.

I no longer see any update activity. I no longer see scans or email
examinations.

When I look at the AVG Control page, everything is up-to-date and shows that
these tools are all working correctly.

Whats going on? Why don't I see anything taking place like I used to with XP?

Thanks for your comments.

You need to upgrade to Version 8.

What kind of release of avg are you using?. If you use the avg free edition
7.5 you have to install the antivirus program as administrator (rigth click
button) in order the program run properly in vista. If you use the avg free
edition 8.0 (yesterday i installed), the scheduled scan seems to run in
background (at least for me, i cannot see the status scan in course as i
could do with avg 7.5, i suppose it is the way it works because i installed
it as administrator).
I don´t know if this answer your question.

What? I also installed AVG (VERSION 8 the latest free version)
yesterday and it works fine. No need to elevate (takes care of that
itself) and the email notification pops up as new email comes in.

It just brings up a small little window at the lower right bottom of
your desktop. It pops up and goes away very fast depending on how fast
your system and Internet connection is, so easy to miss if only one
new email comes in. What I've done is add a sound effect so I get a
audio cue each time I got new email.

It is a TSR program by default, so there should be a AVG icon in the
task bar area. It is a four color square. Double click on it or find
AVG under All Programs to gain access to it. You can schedule it to
run at preset times and it will run in the background with the usual
drain on whatever else you happen to be doing, but you don't have to
stop working. I run mine at lunch time. So I'm not even aware its
running usually. For me, it scans roughly 1.8 TB worth of used disk
space in a little over an hour.

I've been using Vista Ultimate since February of 2007 and so far I've
never had to install anything as Administrator for it to install and run
properly. If you choose to run a program as Administrator you can always
right click, select Properties, select Advanced and select "Run as
Administrator" after it is installed.
Many people choose to install via Run as Administrator. Sometimes it is
necessary but most of the time it is not.

Nope. I am a confirmed Mcafee user but Mcafee, when I last attempted to put
in on my 64 bit Ultimate Vista, didn't work with it (about 2 months ago) so
I am still using AVG which DOES work on my machine. I have been used to AVG
for a long time, playing about with it on XP on some of my other computers
to check it out and it seems the same to me.

As to update, if you are using the free version like I am, yes it auto
updates at intervals but it doesn't always seem to do it and that is the
same as it was with XP. If you are using the free version, get used to right
clicking the icon in the tray and then selecting "check for updates" and
getting all and any update before you open anything at all.

BTW, clicked on a link from a Google search while looking for drivers for a
part and it redirected me to another site that tried to put a downloader on
my machine. AVG stopped it in its tracks.

No he doesn't. He SHOULD but he doesn't NEED to in order to fix the problem
he wrote about.

You surely don't mean to say it is a "Terminate and Stay Ready" program I
hope? That would mean, like those old days when that was the new thing in
the PC world, that when the window isn't active, it isn't running which is
SURELY not AVG.
