I am a very experieced user.. since the Comodore days..
I accepted the update today and I knocked out the video on my HP Tablet with an Intel Video Chipset.. This was the first of my 6 pc's with Vista on it that I updated today and I didn't think anything of it when I choose to install it. I'm not running an ATI card so it should not have effected my pc.. It's easy to say don't install hardware drivers from MS.. But these days I tend to rely on the MS drivers on my laptops and tablet. They have always run better than when I install 1 year or older drivers from the Vender of the laptop. I do not however install MS drivers on my gaming gear.. but that pc is assemebled from parts and throughly researched. So with that out of the way , shall we discuss the more important thing of how to uninstall this update? I can not find it anywhere for the unistall. I have found all the system updates but not the optional ones. Thanks Michael Evans especially "realcestmoi" wrote: > Hi there, as any a little experienced user knows taking driver updates from > windows update is optional and only recommanded for Microsoft hardware > drivers, other drivers if needed ( if it ain,t broke do not try to fix it) > should be taken from the manufacturers webiste. > > Best regards, > Michel Denie > > "Rich" <> wrote in message > news 5500C21-3796-43D1-9FB5-...> > ATI PCI Express (3GIO) Filter Driver > > Installed, reboot and blue screen of death, reboots and blue screens. > > Had to use the Vista DVD repair option to use system restore. > > > > REMOVE THIS UPDATE FROM WINDOWS UPDATE!!! > > > > 2007-11-15 11:44:36:258 1104 dc0 AU ## START ## AU: Search for updates > > 2007-11-15 11:44:36:258 1104 dc0 AU ######### > > 2007-11-15 11:44:36:261 1104 dc0 AU <<## SUBMITTED ## AU: Search for > > updates > > [CallId = {269C02BF-C26D-4A8B-8AAD-DD788B554F5A}] > > 2007-11-15 11:44:36:261 1104 d98 Agent ************* > > 2007-11-15 11:44:36:261 1104 d98 Agent ** START ** Agent: Finding updates > > [CallerId = AutomaticUpdates] > > 2007-11-15 11:44:36:261 1104 d98 Agent ********* > > 2007-11-15 11:44:36:261 1104 d98 Agent * Online = No; Ignore download > > priority = No > > 2007-11-15 11:44:36:261 1104 d98 Agent * Criteria = "IsInstalled=0 and > > DeploymentAction='Installation' or IsPresent=1 and > > DeploymentAction='Uninstallation' or IsInstalled=1 and > > DeploymentAction='Installation' and RebootRequired=1 or IsInstalled=0 and > > DeploymentAction='Uninstallation' and RebootRequired=1" > > 2007-11-15 11:44:36:261 1104 d98 Agent * ServiceID = > > {9482F4B4-E343-43B6-B170-9A65BC822C77} > > 2007-11-15 11:44:37:504 1104 c44 AU WARNING: Returning due to error from > > GetDownloadProgressUx, error = 0x8024000C > > 2007-11-15 11:44:37:504 1104 c44 AU WARNING: GetInteractiveInstallProgress > > failed, error = 0x8024000C > > 2007-11-15 11:45:21:320 1104 dc0 AU AU received handle event > > 2007-11-15 11:45:28:461 1104 dc0 Shutdwn user declined update at shutdown > > 2007-11-15 11:45:28:461 1104 dc0 AU AU initiates service shutdown > > 2007-11-15 11:45:28:462 1104 dc0 AU ########### AU: Uninitializing > > Automatic Updates ########### > > 2007-11-15 11:45:33:935 1104 d98 Agent * WARNING: Exit code = 0x8024000B > > 2007-11-15 11:45:33:935 1104 d98 Agent ********* > > 2007-11-15 11:45:33:935 1104 d98 Agent ** END ** Agent: Finding updates > > [CallerId = AutomaticUpdates] > > 2007-11-15 11:45:33:935 1104 d98 Agent ************* > > 2007-11-15 11:45:33:935 1104 d98 Agent WARNING: WU client failed Searching > > for update with error 0x8024000b > > 2007-11-15 11:45:33:971 1104 dc0 Report REPORT EVENT: > > {3D7C8754-4A61-47CB-8840-8AA93B835039} 2007-11-15 > > 11:44:35:589-0800 1 184 101 {36BCAEF8-144A-40CC-9311-F78F00A614C0} 100 0 > > AutomaticUpdates Success Content > > Install Installation successful and restart required for the following > > update: ATI Technogies Inc - Other Hardware - ATI PCI Express (3GIO) > > Filter > > Driver > > 2007-11-15 11:45:33:971 1104 dc0 Report REPORT EVENT: > > {00C2926C-037F-4F60-AA72-A7DCD9CDB8E5} 2007-11-15 > > 11:44:35:609-0800 1 193 102 {00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000} 0 0 > > AutomaticUpdates Success Content > > Install Restart Required: To complete the installation of the following > > updates, the computer must be restarted. Go to Device Manager, open the “System devices” node, then right click and
Uninstall the “3GIO Filter Driver”. Make sure you click the “Delete the driver from your system” checkbox. After a few restarts the correct drivers should be back in use. Thanks Dan!
That was a big help, I hadn't had time to go looking for where the device was hiding.. WTF!!! What kind of driver is that.. as soon as I unistalled it it basically reinstalled 10 system devices including my mass storage device, usb root hubs , wired net adapter, wireless adapter, etc.. All is good now.. but how could MS release a driver like that? I've checked 2 of my other Vista machines and it is showing up.. Does it not auto detect the hardware and suggest drivers..? My tablet has an Intel On Board video so it should not of even show up for me to download in theory.. Anyway thanks again.. I've been setting up a new Fujitsu U1010 UMPC and after installing a 93Mb
Vista Update including the optional items, I found my screen resolution dropped to 800 x 600 & couldn't be budged; I also had a Device problem showing in my Display Adaptor suggesting another item was taking away its resources. I'm glad I stumbled onto this site. I simply went to Device Manager and System Devices where I found the ATI 3GIO Filter Driver and uninstalled it. After a restart, the monitor resolution is back to 1024 x 600. One problem remains... Why have I had 2 identical log-in buttons at start-up since installing the Vista upgrades? I had the same problme on my Dell XPS200 w/Intel 82945G graphics. I'm not
sure Why MS downloaded this update to my computer. I don't have an ATI chipset, but this errant update really hosed up the computer. I had to go into Device Manager and remove the ATI PCI Express (3GIO) Filter Driver ("delete driver files" checked). After several minutes and a couple of re-boots the system came up and reinstalled all the original drivers (except video). What a disaster! I'm really considering looking at a Mac.
