Axim and ActiveSync 3.7.1

Hello,

I used to own a Dell Axim X5 and used ActiveSync 3.7 that came with it on a
Windows XP Home Laptop with SP 1. It worked fine until Microsoft told me to
install 3.7.1 which was an update. I though, "Hey, Why not?" Here's why
not: When I plugged the X5 into the cradle it would connect and then 5
seconds later disconnect and left ActiveSync trying to connect on my laptop.
I went back to 3.7 (without the .1) and I was able to sync perfectly. I just
bought a new Dell Axim X50v. I kept 3.7, but it says that the version is
outdated and will disable ActiveSync on my device until I update. I update
and the same thing happens as before: It connects and then disconnects. What
do I do?

Thank you in advance!

I have exactly the same problem with a Toshiba E830 and I find it very
frustrating.

I have tried reloading drivers, reloading ActiveSync, resetting the ppc,
cold resetting the ppc.

The only thing that helps is the system works on the first reload of
ActiveSync but never on subsequent connections.

I have two computers one with Windows 2000 the other XP SP2. I only get
this problem with XP. I am using ActiverSync 3.7.1.

I have called Toshiba but they have not provided a solution.

Apart from this the E830 is a fantastic ppc.

Any help would be appreciated.

Robin

I figured it out. If you have a firewall. You need to find the options
where it has the rules for software or programs. There you "delete", do not
change, but "delete" the profile for ActiveSync so that you can reinstate
another one. To do this, just Sync with you PDA and when the Firewall asks
what to do, you reply "Permit all" or something to that extent and it works
perfectly!
