Using IE6.0 it seems like for every webpage I visit or link I click on - I
get the message 'Internet Explorer. Do you want to allow software such as
ActiveX controls and plug-ins to run? and 'A script is accessing some
software (an ActiveX control) on this page which has been marhed safe for
scripting. Do you want to allow this?' Does anybody have any idea how to turn
these off?

either accept activex up your !!!, or use another browser.

but if it turns out there's a "secret" way to kill IE's popup nags from reg settings or such,
i'm still interested.

i can't even find a way to turn on ONLY javascript in IE. (annoying js would then be filtered
by proxomitron)'

cookie 'control' in ie6 was a big improvement, but the settings need complete revamp,
IMO.

Try this:
-Open Internet Explorer.
-Click TOOLS in the top menu.
-Click INTERNET OPTIONS... in the drop down menu.
-Click the SECURITY tab.
-Select INTERNET zone icon, if it's not already highlighted.
-Click on CUSTOM LEVEL... button.
Now check and see if any (Active-X) settings are set to PROMPT, instead
of ENABLE or DISABLE.

Nothing secret about it. Internet Options > Security > Internet > Custom
Level. Check the ActiveX controls list. You only get the pop up nags for
controls with the "Prompt" setting selected. Before you make any changes,
though, be sure you understand the ramifications of setting the controls to
"Enable". ActiveX is the primary reason for drive-by installs of malicious
BHOs.

Same place as mentioned above; just scan down the list farther. When you
come to the "Scripting" section, there are three controls. "Active
Scripting" is the JS control; set it to enable.

The settings are there, and easy to find. The hardest part is MSFT's
penchant for creating their own nomenclature instead of using the common
names.
