back up soft ware

I would like to find a good back up soft ware. I have a new Dell and also a
750 external hard drive. I put Acronis 11 soft ware on to do the back up
and it has not worked well for me. I seem to have a problem with a
password, that I have not been able to solve, therefore the Acronis does not
work. I want to run a full back up to my external drive and then have it
back up each day only what I have added or changed that day, overwriting
what I had deleted, etc. In otherwords I want a "mirror image" back up
current to each day, but it is not necessary to do a full back up every day.
Any advice would be helpful. Thanks. Connie

Call Acronis and have them help you with your password. Acronis works well.

Thanks Bill. Do you have a phone number to call Acronis? Perhaps they can
"talk me through" this problem. By the way I am using Vista on this
computer. Connie

Acronis doesn't have a direct technical support phone number per se. Your
first contact regarding technical support will be through logging-in to your
account and submitting your question or concern.

http://www.acronis.com/company/conta...index.html?t=2

Regarding, passwords. The only passwords that I've encountered using Acronis
are the ones that I've entered when backing up proprietary data.

I've used Acronis for many months: backing up data and recoverying it. No
problems.

I use Acronis True Image exclusively for backing up and haven't yet had any
problems. I'm not sure what problems you are having with Passwords - this is
one option I do not bother with; you also need to go into advanced backup
configuration to password protect the file anyway. The default is no
password at all.

Perhaps if you outlined exactly how you are backing up someone can give you
more help.

You can password-protect an archive (which I don't),
and/or,
when you schedule a backup, it requires a username & password in order to
run.
I believe the OP is referring to the latter.

Whenever you see a block to enter a password - DON'T. Just bypass it.

What is the problem? If it's with scheduled tasks, check that your user
account has a password. If it doesn't, by default, scheduled tasks will
not run.

Do the backups run properly if you launch them manually?

TI can do this easily, under Vista. It's possible that you may need to
contact Acronis support.

Incidentally, it's not really great practice to have only one backup set,
and one should be stored offsite. If your system is stolen or if there is
fire, for example, you will lose the backups. So while external drives
are great for backup - you really need to use more than one and move them
around to other locations.

Personally, Dave, I've never used the 'scheduled backup' option, but going
through it just now I can see that it requires a user name and password;
however, we still don't know what problem the OP is having regarding the
password. As she has to 'create' the password is it a case that she has
forgotten it or does the password not work when it is inputted?

No it doesn't. A screen appears that makes it LOOK as if you have to,
but you bypass it by choosing next (or proceed).

I've never used a password in that area.
