Through Automatic updates I installed successfully the BITS update.
Amonth or so later Automatic updates tried to reinstall the same thing but
gave an error saying that it failed to install it. Ever since then it keeps
trying to reinstall without success, preventing other updates from coming up.
I've tried to re-install it manually but keep getting an error. Any
suggestions?

The problem with the BITS file is and has been an ongoing problem with
Microsoft. Not only do they not know how to fix the problem, they don't even
want to acknowledge that the problem exists.
I spent 3 weeks with Microsoft Techs trying to fix the BITS file so that it
would function correctly. The end result? I have to manually download all my
microsoft updates including all high security updates from Microsoft. It was
never corrected.
Customers should not have to be going through this many steps and registry
corrections to fix this problem. Microsoft should have long ago issued a
"fix" for this problem that customers can download without having to spend
hours or days trying to fix it themselves and possibly crashing their system
in the meantime.

I hope you are reading this Microsoft.
You brag about your Windows and Microsoft automatic update features for
security and can't even supply customers with a functioning BITS file to
allow the automatic updates to work properly.
