All my backgrounds, including the default ones that come with windows live
messenger, somehow disappeared. I have tried uninstalling windows live
messenger, and then installing it again, but that didn't bring any
backgrounds back. Any other ideas?

Funny you should say that my fonts have gone all black. I type in colour and
when I send the writing is black and the font is a default one. What is
going on ??

i don't know, but you may want to make your own thread asking about it and
stay out of mine because these threads only seem to get one or two responses
anyway, so extra posts in a thread probably will not help either one of us.

Greetings,

You'll just have to have them regenerated. To do so:
Shut down Messenger by right-clicking on its icon in the notification area and choosing Exit.
Click Start, then Run, type "%appdata%\microsoft\msn messenger" and click OK. Then find the
folder associated to your account (if you're not sure which it is, just do this to each) and
go into it. Right-click the Backgrounds folder and choose Delete. Say Yes to the prompt and
then sign back into Messenger.

the background files seem to have been taken over by nero as they are all
showing as "nero media files" (just fyi). your fix seems to have worked
although all the default backgrounds were not immediately visable when
clicking on the backgrounds icon in the conversation window. i had to click
on more, then they would show up. i had to click each one to make them my
background before they would all show up in the main conversation window when
i click on the backgrounds icon.

also, is it safe to delete all the user folders that show up when you first
type that command in (there's 12 of them, and i only have three users of
messenger on this computer) as most of them say size:0 bytes and folder:user
tile ?

Hi,

Yeah you can delete the redundant folders. Messenger will just recreate them if it needs
them for something.

The files are labeled as .DATs (aka data), so Nero can take that extension over, it doesn't
really matter.
