Just adding to PA's advice - you can always scan what updates are needed and then
download them manually and store, the only problem after awhile some updates are
superceded.
Information only -
Individual updates can be downloaded from the Catalog and save to be installed later (the
advantage from here is that you can see if they have been replaced or not as more
information is provided)

How to download updates and drivers from the Windows Update Catalog or from the Microsoft
Update Catalog

Other options -
Search for a download

For security and other patches released for a given month :
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec.../ms##-***.mspx
Replace ## with the two-digit year
Replace *** with the three character month abbreviation
Providing there are releases for that month, you will see the list of "critical"
"important" patches for that month
Check on the 2nd Tuesday of each month - later in the day.
For just the current listing:

Personally, I now only save the Service Pack Updates for Windows and Office.
I only download the minor updates when I have to install the same on someone else's
computer and internet access is limited. I usually connect their computer to the internet,
scan to see what is needed and then make a list etc. If they are only small ones I don't
usually worry too much, just the larger ones on limited download internet access.
Another alternative, is to *image* the drive on a regular basis, that saves not only the
updates, but your current settings and programs etc.
