I am trying to run Backtrack4 with windows virtual pc but it is failing to
load. THe problem seems to be the video for some reason yet I can run
backtrack4 just fine under vBox (sun). Any suggestions would be great or if
anyone had the same problem and found a solution. BTW my pc is a spanking new
HP AMD phenom quad core with 8gig ram, ati radeon 9870 video card and im
running windows vista/7 64bit.

Okay -

I grabbed BackTrack 4 Pre Release and got it working by:

Boot, select "Start BackTrack FrameBuffer (1024x768)" and type "e"
Select the "kernel" line and type "e"
Type in " i8042.noloop" at the end of the line and hit enter
Type "b" to boot

(all of this is needed to get the mouse to work)

Now, once you get to the prompt - type in:
"fixvesa" and hit enter
"startx" and hit enter

Now you will be up and running

Cheers,
Benjamin Armstrong

This definatly worked for my vista 32 bit Virtual PC... it would not even
get past the error messages of not being able to communicate before... and
now it works.

Hey there! I had the same problem as the OP and your fix did the trick as far
as booting the live cd in Windows Virtual PC, but I'm trying to install it on
a VHD and it seems to freeze once it reaches 99%. Only the VPC freezes, not
my entire PC and Windows Virtual PC remains responsive. Any ideas or
suggestions as to what could be the cause?

Thanks in advance.
