like to save these updates. can anyone tell me where this updates are

They are kept in you C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download folder.

HOwever, you just cannot backup that folder since some of the names contain
packages, but are modified by Windows Update when installing. Usually the
sub-folders all have the packages they anyone can use to install.

However, somepackages are just downloaded to the
C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download folder, and once downloaded,
Windows Update changes the name and then runs the new file package.

Also, some updates are not downloaded to that Download folder (most are ...
but some use other folders depending on the package size).

so the only proper way to deal with it to now let the updates be downloaded
autmatically, note down the update numbers and then download them
individually from ms website.

Hello Neerav,

Maybe consider this...

Manually run Windows Update to see what's needed (choose the "custom"
option). Open a new Explorer window and browse to the Microsoft Download
Center. Go back to the update page and copy to clipboard the title of the
update, including the (kb****) number. Return to the MS Download Center and
past the clipboard into the search box.

You may get several search results so PAY ATTENTION to the titles. Click on
the result that equals what you need and save this new page to a folder of
your choice (this page will be your future description and release date for
the update your about to download. Now click the download button and save
the update file to the same folder.

Be sure that the name of the saved web page includes the name of the
downloaded update so they'll stay together in your directory listing. Save
the web page as an archive "mht" file so you don't wind up with all the
extra graphic files and folders and stuff.

Do more searches until you have them all.

Close the MS Windows Update page after you have them all and before you
install them.

After installing the updates, run Windows update again to make sure nothing
else shows up and that you have everything.

Good luck...

Richard in VA.

When ready to install the update, copy it to your desktop and double-click
(execute) it from there. Once installed, delete the file from your desktop.
This will leave a copy in your download folder for future use.

There are also sites on the internet that keeps track of all updates MS has
put out since SP2, plus you can access this information from the MS Catalog
option.

Hello,
I had a 28.8 connection.
At that time I devised the following: Go to Update site and check "custom
update",
write the KB numbers down, do not download.
Then go to the Windows update catalog site:
(http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.co...en/default.asp) or the
download site(http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/s...displaylang=en)
and use the search function inputing each update number and download each
file.
This way I could install and keep the update for backup purpose only
downloading once.
As a check after installing I would go back to Windows update site and
receive no updates needed.
Considering that sometimes the downloads would take 1 or 2 hours, this was a
little tedious but saved me 50% download time.
As of today that file has 138MB after SP2. Not counting IE7 ,WMP11 and .net
1.0 and2.0.
I install them on a flash drive for backup.
take care.
beamish.
