This may not be the answer you are looking for, but....I tried to use DVD's
as my backup destination and gave it up as a losing proposition. It took
too many DVD's, took too long even when it worked correctly, and often gave
me errors similar to yours. I then bought an external 160 GB USB drive for
my backups and have had zero problems backing up since then. The drive cost
only $60 and was money well spent in my view....I have since thought that
Vista should come with an explicit recommendation to do your backups on
external drives (although I suppose a storage location elsewhere on a
network or on the internet might work ok, but not DVD's). Just my two
cents....
