backup doesn't work

I'm not able to backup my C drive to another logical drive on the same hard
disk. I'm able to do it in Win XP. I was told I need a separate hard disk or
CD. But I don't believe that. If I can do it in XP I should be able to do it
in Vista. I went over the help files and the backup prompts. It says it will
backup to drive K and it says I can't include the drive I'm backing up to.
All I'm doing is backing up C to K. It goes thru the motions of creating a
shadow copy, then I get an error message: The system cannot find the file
specified.

I thought Vista was supposed to be an improvement on XP. Should I go back to
XP??

What are you going to do if your main hard drive fails?
It makes a lot more sense to backup to an independent
external drive.

While you might have done it under XP it isn't good practice since the
whole point of backing up a partition is to guard against hard drive
failure. If the drive fails and sooner or later they all do, you run
the risk of not being able to access you backup it being on the same
physical disk.

It really depends HOW you backup. What software are you using? Like I
said I don't recommend you do it, but that doesn't mean you can't
physically do it.

A good HD should last a few years, I was more concerned about corruption of
the OS which happens more frequently. Anyway I accomplished the goal with
Boot It NG, a free software that's better than the ones that are not free.
It's a shame Vista doesn't do it. Hate to say this but I think Vista sucks.
