Backup Files - Can't Delete

I had to reload windows from my Recovery Partition disk (c) twice since
I've had this PC. The last timewas because thev Windows 7 upgrade screwed
everything up.
When it re-installed Windows Vista Home Premium it created huge backup
files. I assume this is normal procedure.
In any event, I now need the disk space. But it says I don't have
permission to delete these backup files, even though I'm the Admin user. It
didn't work in safe mode either.

How can I get rid of these backup files?
