I just have to have a backup of all my backups and a image of my C:\ and
have that stored in 2 places. I haven't done an mirror because you make a
mistake in one hard drive then that mistake is in your mirror drive also. So
what about this. I build a mirror and then put in a third hard drive for
manual backups that I can tweak and so forth. Does this sound like a plan. I
also have everything on DVD. But this is my plan because the DVD backup.
Does anyone have a better idea because when it comes to backups I'm all
ears.

Thanks
Richard

I have had limited experience in the areas of backup, but I have worked with
the new Complete PC Backup Utility in Vista which is just excellent, here is
a link to my tutorial:

In a word: MOZY

My data is encrypted and then backed up online, a couple of
times a day. Since I live on a laptop, it's great to know that
theft, loss, or damage on the road costs me nothing but hardware.

It's initially free up to some point. Several friends have
signed up for free accounts and for each of them I get some
additional increment. I now use about 75% of my FREE 3.5GB
allocation. I've tested Mozy a couple of times, asking for
archived files, and get what I want - at no cost and on a timely
basis.

Once a week, my critical stuff gets dumped onto a DVD.

I'm sure the experts will find fault with this, but I get only
confidence from Mozy.

May you never need a backup!

I've been using Mozy for a year or more, but having migrated to Vista
64, it fails on first run. It appears to install OK but when I try to
Configure, it tells me that the Service is not running. It's wrong -
the service is definitely installed and running.

Has anybody else got MozyHome (mine is paid for) working on Vista 64?

I have sent an email to their support team, but I thought I'd try here
as well.

Update - after fiddling around rather a lot with the service, starting
and stopping, it now appears to be working OK. There's a long slog ahead
to re-encode all the files so it will take a few days to finish, but I'm
not sure what will happen when the machine is restarted. I wonder if
there's a dependency on the Mozy service?

Has anybody else had any problems?

OK, the problem of the Mozy service starting seems to have gone away,
but it is _so_slow_. At a guess it's running at less than one fifth of
the speed it ran on my XP machine. It looks like it's doing about 1Gb a
day. The Mozy FAQ says

-For a typical system on a typical broadband line, Mozy backs up data
at about 2-4 GB per day. But if left undisturbed on a fast connection,
you can back up over 9 GB in a single day.-

And I wouldn't have argued with that on the XP machine. But something
is making it run very slowly, despite being left alone for days at a
time with nothing else using the line. Any ideas? Nothing but the
computer has changed - 4 Gb Virgin line (512k up, I think) Quad 6600
Vista Ultimate 64 with 4 Gb memory.
