Is it possible to backup multiple computers running vista to one external
hard drive or will one copy overwrite the previous?

Yes, you can do multiple backups to an external drive, thats how I do mine.
Just make sure that the machine names are not the same since the backup will
be renamed after your machine in a folder.

Certainly, if the backup drive is big enough. It has nothing to do
with Vista in particular.

It's like writing any file. If you give it the same name as an
existing file, it will overwrite the existing file. If you give the
backup a different name, it won't.
