Backup/Restore Won't

I see not problems with my system other than this message from Backup.
A shadow copy could not be created for the following reason:
Shadow copying the specified volume is not supported (0x800423C)
Geek speak error message as usual!
What does this mean?
No Help in Help either!
It is a M$ program running on M$ Vista and M$ cannot make it work!!!

My D: drive is set to back up to.
It is formatted NTFS. Not dynamic.
Has lots of space (more than the lone C: being backed up.
It has no errors and works just fine otherwise.

How do I fix this mess?

You will probably find a bad entry in the registry.

You receive a "Volume Shadow Copy Service" error message and event ... :
