I went to Windows Update and downloaded a few important updates. Something
happened to the MS .NET framework service pack and it is corrupted. I get
general fault error message while trying to install it and have to cancel out
of the installation.

Now the Windows Update page shows that I have 0kb to download so it won't
redownload a non-corrupt version of the service pack. I don't know where to
go look for the corrupt download on my PC to delete it so I can redownload it.

How the heck can I clear out the corrupt download so I can finally get this
thing installed?

How to troubleshoot Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 installation issues

Microsoft .NET Framework Version 1.1 Redistributable Package
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Then download:
Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

For the corrupt download:-
To stop the Automatic Updates service, clear the contents of the DataStore and
Download folders, (if appropriate EventCache) and restart the Automatic Updates
service

1. Stop the Automatic Updates Service.
Click Start, Choose Run.
In the Run box, type services.msc.
Click OK.
Right-click the Automatic Updates service. Select Properties.
Under Service status, click Stop.
Click OK

2. Now you’ll need to clean out the Download folder for WU5 by deleting the Contents
of the DataStore and Download folders.
Click Start, Choose Run.
In the Run box, type %windir%\SoftwareDistribution.
Click OK.
Delete the contents of both the DataStore, (and perhaps the EventCache) and Download
folders.

You will lose your WUv5 History – not important

When you’re ready:
Start the Automatic Updates Service
Click Start, Choose Run.
In the Run box, type services.msc.
Click OK.
Right-click the Automatic Updates service. Select Properties.
Under Service status, click Start.
Click OK.
