If you were a programmer, then you would know that any program, which an O/S
is a program, is a work in progress. It's called maintenance programming,
which is after the fact that a programmed solution has been released.

Maintenance programming is just part of the development life cycle.

It's much ado about nothing.

Mr Arnold, if you were a CEO or had any marketing experience, then you
would know that for the CEO to admit that its flagship product is a
"work in progress" is CEO-speak for "we f*ck up!".

Yes, you are right - programs are always works-in-progress, but that is
the honest statement of a programmer. When that admission comes from a
CEO who is in the business of lying, misrepresentation and putting a
positive 'spin' on even the worst piece of crap - then you know things
are not as they should be.

I call it the triple dip. Not all will do the double or triple dip but bet
many have already done the double dip. But does explains why Microsoft XP
sales predictions were 50% lower than actual sales, that increase is the
double dip.

Buy a commodity home MS-Windows PC, only comes with Vista. MS gets paid by
the OEM. Microsoft's first dip.

Next, too many things don't work for you in Vista or the performance is so
bad, you want XP. So you go out and buy a new version of XP. The double
dip, you now have paid for 2 licenses for one OS you are going to use.

Now Win7, will be advertised to solve all your issues and XP is not longer
supported. But guess what, you have to open up your wallet again. The
triple dip. Yep, one PC and paid for the OS 3 times, the triple dip.

Me, I am jumping off here at the single dip. Microsoft is only getting one
dip per PC from me. They want the new PC I just purchased 2 months ago to
run MS-Windows, they are going to have to replace or fix the one they
shipped with something better.

There not called "programmers" anymore. They prefer to be called
software engineers. Most have a certain personality. A classic example
is the fat guy programmer in Jurassic Park who's sort of a slob, has
clutter on and all around his work station, always claims he's
overworked and not paid enough for his "talents". Wayne Knight (the
actor that played the role) also played Newman on Seinfeld, the
paranoid mailman. My guess...Microsoft has hundreds of "Newsmans" on
their payroll as "programmers". Which if true, explains a lot.

Maintenance programming will not fix major design issues. Maintenance
programming is usually just bug fixes with a few minor drivers for new
devices. Updated certs etc. If to get performance up a new restructured
kernel was needed, that will be Win7 or beyond.

Don't hold your breath for a quick Vista fix.

Kind of like the Bear Stearns CEO that said everything was peachy,
then the stock crashed to $2 from around $80 overnight. LOL!

In other words you are saying all software is beta but we must pay for
it anyway.

I prefer the term "code monkeys".

#1 - I don't have a problem with Vista period. If one can't drive, then one
doesn't get behind the wheel.

#2 - I am working on the security implementation of a .Net WCF application
for a client with the application already running in a production or
released state that runs company and nationwide. There are such things as
enhancement programming of a released solution. I have also written O/S(s)
and maintained them in the 70's. You don't know what you are talking about,
with anything concerning programming in the development life cycle.
