battery doesn't show time remaining

Just got a brand new HP tx2000 notebook. The battery indicator shows the % of
battery remaining, but it doesn't show the time remaining (hh:mm). I'm
assuming that HP did something so that this isn't displayed because they
don't want people to complain when the battery doesn't live up to the specs
that they advertise. However, isn't this a function of Vista itself? How can
I override whatever HP did and get the standard battery indicator (with hh:mm
remaining) that is included with Vista to display?

Please help. Thanks.

I checked on the HP website for your model, and there appears to be
some system updates, including a BIOS update. I don't know if that will
fix your issue, but I'd start there. If the updates don't assist you,
then contact HP directly with your question. The battery meter in Vista,
as far as I know, is doing what it was designed to do. If anyone else
would like to comment about this, please do.

Hi,

You can't. What displays is a function of the drivers used to control and
monitor the hardware. HP, like many other manufacturers, chose to go with a
percentage remaining rather than a time remaining figure. One reason why is
that the latter figure is highly dependent on how the system is used. The
same amount of battery power can last for vastly different time amounts for
different users, so the figure can be highly inaccurate for someone playing
an interactive game versus someone typing an email. Note that the specs now
generally state things like "...for up to xx hours", not "...will last xx
hours".

I have an HP Pavilion and my batter indicator never gave me time remaining,
just percent.
