best free antivirus program

My ISP provides Mc Afee for free and I have tried iobit.
Is there a free program that is better then the others?

You probably will find varying answers to your question, but I use Avast
satisfactorily.
Some say AVG is as good or better, but no McAfee for me.
If you google for it you may find something entirely different.
In the end you'll be the judge.

Answers will always vary.

Many will insist you avoid Norton or McAfee (even if gotten for free.)
About the same number will tell you not to go with any all-in-one suites.

The free ones that are decent in my mind:
Avira
Avast
AVG (when installed custom, minimizing what gets installed.)

For "cost" - eSet NOD32 - AV only. $60/2 years.

In my View, McAfee, along with Norton, is among the worst anti-virus
programs available.

For an anti-virus program, I recommend eSet NOD32, if you are willing
to pay for it. If you want a free anti-virus, I recommend one of the
following three:

Avira
Avast
Microsoft Security Essentials

You also need anti-spyware software. I recommend that you download and
install (both freeware) MalwareBytes AntiMalware *and*
SuperAntiSpyware.

I have had no trouble with it over many years.

Many claim the same,but eventually Norton and MacAfee will hit hard. It is playing
Russian roulette with those two. I am telling you this from experience in answering
posts over a period of 17 years. Issue with them is very high. Some get away without
issues for years but eventually it will hit

I agree. One caveat though, I did a custom install so that I had
better control of what was going to happen with the program. Changing
some of the defaults in the setup was done as well.
