Scenario:
After installing new a HD; then after installing the XP OS and XP Office,
what is the best and the --MOST SECURE—method for installing _ALL_ Win
UpDates?

While using Cable or DSL, what is the most -"Secure Method"- achieved
“Before” establishing an ISP Connection?

Go directly to the Microsoft Windows Update web site.

Carey,
Understandbly, MS Windows Up Date is the source; my question is simply this:
What is the most "Secure" method? does one go to Win Up Date "before" or
"after" establishing an ISP connection while using cable and/or DSL?

You have to be connected to the internet to get to Windows Update site so
make sure you have an up to date AV running and if you don't have a 3rd
party firewall enable the built in Windows firewall before going online.
Hope that helps.

Hello Joan,
My purpose for inquiring was merely a test to determine how many folks are
aware that it is not needed or necessary for establishing an ISP connection
for performing Win UpDates. Hence, AV and Firewall are not needed for
performing a "Totally Safe and Secure" complete Windows Up Date(s).
Additionally, when not logged in to an ISP, Win UpDates automatically
generates a Log File of all actions (while downloading and installing)
including any potential not-desired intruders.

Experiment for your self; click Start, then All Programs, then, near to top
entries you will find Windows Up Date, click once, then presto, Win Up Dates
appears asking for your selection, Express or Custom. As long as you are not
logged in to an ISP, Windows "automatically" provides you more than safe and
secure protection will performing UpDates. Kinda like one of those things
that has been present all the time and few people are aware. Considering the
increasing numbers of not-desired intruders; should be the only method for
UpDating Windows and protecting your OS Protected Files simultaneously. PS:
Share or keep it secret...your decision.
