Well Done Microsoft!!!!

For creating the most flawless, easy to use, powerful operating system ever,
it was a long wait, but it was worth it!

I have now been running vista fully for a year and after some initial
problems (down to hardware, not vista) it runs flawlessly!

I have rebooted for weeks, I am getting a bit worried that maybe i should.
All my software runs quicker and better than before, even old editions!

Congratulations!!!!!

I heartily agree with your assessment. Everything just runs better.
Microsoft has finally got it right.

With Vista being as good as it is, it makes a man wonder what they'll
be giving us with Windows Seven!

Who was here complaining about such 'blanket' statements ?

That will probably have been me.

Perhaps I could have been more detailed in my post, but let's be honest
here, shall we? Vista is not perfect (NO OS ever is), but it IS far
better than XP in many ways.

Sure, there are some rare instances where Vista hasn't performed for
some people as it should have, but anyone that claims XP is better than
Vista simply hasn't used Vista long enough to be able to make accurate
comparisions.

This is, surely, just a very subtle joke, isnt it?

Why do some assume it is a "joke" when someone posts Windows Vista
works well?
The FACT some choose to ignore is that there are many that
successfully use Windows Vista with no problems.

Windows Vista has worked well for me for about a year on two older
computers.

Why would it be a 'joke'? I don't dispute that many users have experienced
problems with Vista, but they also experienced problems with XP. During the
early beta testing of XP I personally experienced numerous problems, these
however, did not materialise in Vista. I too can honestly say that Vista has
worked 'near perfect' for me over the last twelve months not only on physical
machines but also virtual machines. It hasn't given me the WOW factor that
Microsoft plug in their advertising campaign but it hasn't given me cause to
complain either.

I'd like to jump in also and say that I have an old dog of a machine that I
really put through the ringer and Vista has been great running on it. I have
a noticable performance increase over the XP install that I upgraded from. I
had designs to buy a new machine using Vista as the excuse to do so, but it
works flawlessly on my old machine. I have to admit, I had to buy a new
video card, but that was a very small expense compared to a new PC. I have
had no crashes, my home wireless network works great, I can access the Vista
machine from the other networked machines and I just think it works great. I
did have issues with the indexing feature for about a week, but now thats
gone. I haven't disabled UAC or indexing (as many recommend) and I love it.
My daughter was on the PC the other night and hit a web page that wanted to
install something. UAC popped up, the program didn't have a title, so I said
"Cancel" and that took care of that. How much better can you get?

Anyway, thats my piece for what its worth. My opinion and its just an
opinion, is that if you are having troubles with Vista, buy a Vista for
Dummies book!!

That's a blanket statement also.

Here's the problem.....as far as comparing OS's, what is 'better' ? What
does 'better' actually mean ?

Everyone's got their own requirement's for what they do with their PC.
Security is a big issue generally. I myself have never had any problems,
security wise. I was hip to spyware/adware very early on before that became
a huge problem, and was able to steer clear.

My XP box has been rock-solid stable for years.. It started out with Win98,
and was _upgraded_ to XP shortly after it's release. Has had hardware
upgraded, a ton of s/w installed and un-installed. I ran no SP's up until a
year ago, and then after a catastrophic hard drive failure, I decided to up
to SP1. It hadn't even had a repair install up to that point. A few
individual security updates were applied over time, the ones I deemed
necessary....for me.

I don't know if you can get any better than that ?

Vista, is probably, the best OS there is today! I mean despite the fact that
it's been experiencing some problems after it has been released, it is always
expected to be that way right? I mean that goes to almost every new OS.
Consequently, you can't ignore also those millions of people that claimed
Vista has indeed worked for them in an awesome way.

Vista was never the perfect OS that anyone imagined. But it's close to that!
