Best Practice Windows 2008 Server File Server role

I'm migrating from a Novell Netware file server to Windows 2008 running the
File Server role. This is the only role this server will run.AD is in place
on another server. What are some good recommendations for setup? I was
planning on setting up a 50gb C-drive, then having a RAID5 D-drive that will
be about 500gb. Also, any special considerations for volume shadowing?
