Beta Installation problem on Vista x64

Although specifically mentioned in the blog posts, I am unable to install the
beta version of Live Messenger on Vista x64. The installation program gives
me a message saying that "Windows Live programs can't be installed on this
operating system".

I find it hard to believe the Microsoft will not support their own OS, but I
have been surprised before (Windows Home Server comes to mind).

If there is any info or workarounds for this, I would appreciate it.

The installer itself is not configured for x64. They weren't expecting so
many Vista x64 users this early into the game.

They will have this updated in either a newer beta, or by final release. In
the meantime there are places hosting the installers for the separate
products and which install fine by themselves.
