beta sp2 - flawed and won't go away

I have the beta sp2 installed, v2149 (?).
While looking for the question already asked, about how to uninstall and get
the actual release I saw a thread regarding problems with java applets. Good
to know they're linked together. At first I got used to installing java daily
and eventually avoid anything that needs it.
I had to turn off the security center, as it always prompting to upgrade,
then to uninstall the beta before it would update, then not allowing me to
uninstall.
Can't stay where I am, can't go forward or back. Not in the mood for
reformatting.

Ah, SP2 was blocking it
