i read in an artical that you could possibly beta test service pack 1 for
windows vista. does anyone know how to get service pack 1 beta from
microsoft so that you can beta test it?

The beta isn't public, there may be a sign up form on
http://connect.microsoft.com/ for it.

There is currently no public beta test for Vista SP1. You can sign up at
Connect and nominate yourself to be a beta tester as Paul indicated, but
that's it. Microsoft is not taking applications specifically for the Vista
SP1 project.

Vista SP1 is by invitation only. Only testers in the Server 2008 Beta or
those who were part of the Vista Beta on Connect received an invitation.
Vista SP1 will be available from MSDN and TechNet at some point as well.

Which is the main reason all Microsoft products are buggy as hell when
first released.
