Beware Update 943899

Spent a few days chasing a no restart from sleep mode problem on a new build.
Finally located KB 943899 update rated as recommended to correct for systems
that would blue screen when trying to wake from sleep or hibernate.

Problem is that I didn't have the problem. Somehow update 943899 installed
on the system and then all hell broke loose, with me mostly. Since it was new
build, only a few things could be causing the problem such as, new G33 Intel
board and drivers, or settings, or ? Also this issue is addressed in the KB
that "some" systems may be affected since it modifies hard drive instructions
at shutdown for sleep or hibernate.

I suspect non-Raid AHCI boards or large SATA drives, 250 Gb in this case to
be victims, errr, candidates for problems. Have same update on Raid AHCI
boards with large SATAs and no problems. If anyone has experienced this,
would like to see a reply to eliminate future problems with MS or Intel
through rewrite or ?

Oh, the fix is to remove 943899 update and system will return to normal.

Have a great time.

Love replying to myself. Previous post is only partially right since after
writing the disertation the system went back to its bad behaviour. Well not
exactly, as least some progress was made.

Contacted Intel and it appears that this is an issue with a Bios update and
for the G33BUC board it is an issue that needs to install the 0362 Bios.
While I initially stated the update from MS was the problem, I must now say,
damn if I know.

When the manufacturer and the software provider is trying to attack the same
or similiar issue at the same time, this can lead to confusion. Call me
confused, but at least the system is working well.

One last step to do, and that is make an image of the os before I apply the
MS update again to test if it has an adverse affect, and if it does I will be
back, if it doesn't I will shut my mouth.

Hey John F. I'm having the same problem with Sleep mode in Vista. I put
my computer to sleep before going to bed and when I tried to use it this
morning. I got the blue screen and the driver named was atapi.sys, I'm
pretty sure that's the same issue as yours. Following is my hardware

Motherboard: Intel D865GBF, WD 36GB Raptor, WD 500GB, Samsung
160GB(pata) drives.

Please let me kow how you fixed it. I really need to fix this issue
asap! Thanks!
