Hello,

For is a Bi boot XP home SP2 + Vista Premium mce, is-it better :
2 or 3 partitions?

I am explaining :

Solution (1):
Partition 1: XP (advised Volume: 10g ? , ntfs)
Partition 2: Vista (advised Volume: 20g ? , ntfs)
Installation of Vista after XP for Bi-boot creation

Solution (2):
Partition 1 for the bi-boot small files (advised Volume: 500 K ?, Fat32 ?)
Partition 2: XP (advised Volume : 10g ? , ntfs)
Partition 3: Vista (advised Volume: 20g ? , ntfs)
Installation of Vista after XP for Bi-boot creation

Thanks for any idea, info & experiences : -)

Jean-Max

PS : I used with success solution (2) for a bi-boot 98SE + XP on a game PC
(old & new games)

Partition 1: XP (advised Volume: 20GB, ntfs)
Partition 2: Vista (advised Volume: 40GB, ntfs)
Installation of Vista after XP for Bi-boot creation

or Vista first and repair the bi-boot with VistaBootPro.

OK , Thanks I will follow this.

Last Question :

=> Must I separate on 2 different partitions, the programs for XP and the
programs for Vista ?

Note 1 : I talk about the programs which would not be inside the /Program
Files/ directory of each of the 2 OS.

Note 2 : The datas will be on another Hard Disk

Thanks :-)

Don't use FAT32. See this link:

OK !
Thanks for this useful link :-)

But even if there are only NTFS for XP and Vista Partitions in bi boot,
it seems that there is also the problem of Vista restauration point
destruction ?

Yes, it are two separate worlds. But you can reach each other.

At a third partition? No problem.

No problem. You can reach it from each system.

Yes, if XP can see the Vista partitions, when booting into XP, it will
delete the system restore points, file shadow copies and some of the backups
created in Vista. There are several ways around this. One is to use
Bitlocker (available only in Business, Enterprise and Ultimate) to encrypt
the Vista partition, or hide the Vista partition from XP by using a 3rd
party boot manager. The link I gave you has info for that.
