I am running windows xp home edition, d/l service pack 2, all was good. I was
running style xp, boot.ini was apparently changed again after installation of
s/p2, now i have an error message when trying to start up, will not start up,
heres the message " windows could not start because the file is missing or
corrupt c:\system32\drivers\ntfs.sys. is there a way i can get this thing to
boot up, so i can shut down style xp, and cure the problem without losing my
files??????

Assuming that that is a typo for the correct file path <eg>
it looks as if you could find a backup copy in:

C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386

In order to make use of that copy you would boot from another
drive or partition which can access that drive.

Provided you are well versed in your DOS commands <eg>
you could try using the XP Recovery Console

<title>KB314058 - Description of the Windows XP Recovery Console</title>

BTW this question is slightly off-topic for this newsgroup
you may find better assistance in a newsgroup which specializes
in the OS.
